anther stormy night

IM001062.JPG
well its another stormy night last night, built a fire and the tempiture just dropped and started picking up the wind,

I even painted a little last night, late at night the rain and strong wind made it feel as the roof is about to come off, i an now feeling the unorganised way i put this cheep tin roof on this building, with odd drips comming down from the ceiling,

I have to go in ot Austin to take that show down at the Hideout, i hate that drive up there , in weather like this, last night while i was laying in bed think man i am going to get this building done once and for all,! branchs and rain skraping the building, and my poor chickens man it must be cold out there,

Freddy came over last night, he was abit tired and we chatted a while i showed him the Sudduth painting, he liked it, i told him that if a 94 year old black man living out in the boone docks of Alabama could produce this kinda work, its something very noteworthy brilant!,(as a matter of fact) i went on to tell him that "with all the fancy suberban universtiy edu'ma'cating, look what its done, i bet no professior here in town can paint a bit past 70, " .
I always have the rural primative appeal, Fred's is like reserved clasicalism, kinda like armchair modernism. Alot of the work i bought recently has been these back woods Black older men (folk art) types, Toney, Perkins. I don't know why but i love this kinda work, i went on to explain to fred, i suppose its myth that prepels the work you cann't see the work with out understanding the myth,( but make no mistake about it your work will out live the myth) unless somebody destroys it. I explained that if i made a painting it was my last and i killed myself, you bet that painting would take on a more powerful significances, its the myth thats been attached to it., kinda like Van Go's ear. is it good work???? i am not qualafied to create such an opinion in these times , we only know what we like,.

I had to plea with ol Fred, i am not a raceist, but i love the old bluseman myths/stories/characters of the 30's , its had a porfound effect apone my work and habits to say the least, Freddy's work is like classical modernism, he like to put forth the idea of "valued content" over viod abstrctions, . I have tryed to convence hime to go crazy and spit painitngs out like a Picasso or P,Young, but he cann't, he is a refined artist, i talk about rambling with a brush , his is a more studied surmon. so this agressiveness on my part to push him into this role he has got Fred worked up over Race issues from time to time., its all apples and oranges, when it comes down to it
