the last cowboy painter

one interesting discover after i woke up from a hang over the next moring , there were alot of gallery openings all over marfa, one in perticular was fun to watch, this photo above is this artist/writer/cowboy kelly pruit (i was to scare to ask him, i wanted this photo so i just took it), i met him along time ago over in Redford, he moved into serg's old place, kelly from what i gathered is a legend in Texas cowboy art, "the real deal" in the cowboy lifestyle, he must be like 80 plus now, and when i saw him in redford 99, he had this like caravan of trucks he pulled into the town, with dogs sitting on everypart of it it looked like a gypys band waggon, and set up in this field and started making an adobe structure, along with his white new age indian girlfreind who was a big fan of his, man ! what a life!, this guy was tuff too,
he remined me of one of my other heros
henry Winston, my old highschool coach, part cheokee and german, this man stood like six for ,tan ,bald and took up the Friends churchs idea of mind over body, he was a coach, real quiet but man this guy look tuff, he was in real good shape for his age, i guess back in the 80, maybe sixty, something , but looking at kelly now he looks a bit wirey and weathered, but i would guess is still mean as every,
, hell the first time i tryed to talk to him he didn't say much and pointed to a shovel and said are you going to work, and i ended up helping him dig holes around his studio,
i guess when you get that old no one means anything , you just doen't care as much anymore, but now looking at him
, i think this is the way i would want to die, just be painting away, sometwhere, and just kill over, like on the city slickers movie, curly's death,

outside the gallery
i think there were alot of gallery set ups to try and cheese out the judd deal a bit, after a while, i thought, ahhhhh,
there is a story about all this
