Wallace

|

I went threw a town called Wallace and started entertaining the idea of crashing there for a month or two in some avalible comercial spaces there, probly in Jan or Feb, . its an odd place sorta a lost tourist town that hasn't ever made it, while i was driving around i was thinking why here? . why this place?
Driving around alot, and looking at alot of landscapes ones i have seen over and over again, they are kinda like these special places to me these very unique seens that are here for a while and then gone, like old buildings and ditches.
"Man its humid out," i had my truck over in Brenham and i guess leaving it in a field i go ants in it, i didn't figure it out untill i got to Sealy while i was driving, and let me tell you it can be annoying watching you feet, and the stings! so i pulled over alot and was thinking what is my role in all this i am an artist, i make things , paintings thats all i do, and really all i know is this landscape, i am not that contempory up in an on trends etc, but i started to ask myself "what is Country?" and is it my duty to slavisly paint it.
A while back i went to a local Music gig at Triple Crown and saw Scott Birum play it was real entertaining he has morfed all the old blues and is playing it all ruff and primative with a lot of ramblings to it, i said to Drek , now this is counrty,.! poetic, real ,heroic, traditional,.
what one of my favorite urban music myths is where rockers go country and stay, but actualy add alot of deversity to the music landscape, Scott is a one man band and he is always playing, i suppose what it means to me is that one has to simply to make and intragrate in to the settings at hand, country is very populist by its taste but also seductive by is candidness and applbility. So what is art in counrty?, bluebonnets, pastorual settings, sentimentaly aside, those are decorations, halmarkcards.
Reality in landscape is very abstract. but it does govern from the eyes , and should be impregnated with one's ego, to say anything
