well i am in the process of trying to figure out whats next? i pulled out a bunch of old chicken sketches and are sending themover to Round Top, all this stuff i did in 96, i am making little books for them, i love the old chicken scratch paintings, i am also going to find some space in Austin for a like a minin gallery in some coup antique store biz profiling out all this art i have found one being David Kontra, i bought one of his paintings off ebay real nice , has character, and it reminded me of another painting i got from David Breihan, its real good two both paintings have this sorta plainly dead quality to them but compustionaly they are alive with this ackward stance of a ridgid landscape, i don't know i just like them

well
the reception has came and gone, i couldn't complain it was fun , had great food, and a good crowd turned out,
its and end of an era , for the moment, i spent something like a year here since i got back from Floyd, and i am iching for a new adventure somewhere,? hummmm where, ? The base of what i am making now will probly be refining my work in a study of interesting landscapes, where and how, gravitating to the chain of lakes area, (big thickit area)
i also saw Paul Warmus there, i don't know why but its always good to see him, DD stayed over and we went and saw N Wilson and ol' painting professor here n San Marcos, its been interesting listining to DD's crittiqual sence, about the nature of , what's new or interesting jux to Niel's more directly behavioral approch. This means one makes work from experiances, how does that come about?
One thing i now know is you have to move around alot, investigate differnt places, and dig up stuff,.

Sept 25 Show

|

Well on the 25 here in San Marcos, i will be having a show of 22 paintings. In The Eyes Of Texas Gallery.
It will be my third show there, i have been in this galllery since 2000, its a local gallery, been here in this comunity , for like 20 years , I think its one of the first frame shops, here. It was a struggle to get them to go from country western to contempory, . I still find it amazing people are shocked about art when its not a country landscape or a nastalgic western bs, . It was funnny in Floyd, where if your were realy on the edge if you did decrotive abstracts, and some one would give you a pep talk about pushing the bounderys.
I am going to go over to the gallery and shoot the work and post it,
So whats next? i have to do the Hide out show which is the first show i talked about here in the site in Dec, i have it again,

IM000723.JPG
man last night i had this dream in witch my chiken fence gets attacked again, , its funny how dreams work, i think this one is like that part on the movie Christie where the nerd guy finds his car all trashed, every dreami have had about the destrution of the fence its seems more server than the last. In this one the vandals cut the heads off didn't steall them and ran the wholl fence down plus put up a totem poll , so they were art vandals "what the fuck!!!" it was raining and the house crew was looking at the wreckage, " whoa bummer george" . , "Did any body see this you could hear them last night do this?! i explained. i could repair the thing righ off, but i rember this vengefull wrath building in me to make a more extreme fence more powerful than the last, yes i will build it it wil be complete! i will make it whole again!!, after it quits raining of cource..

house drama;
well one of my roomates wanted to argue about the dishs again, pulled me out of my shed to argue about how i hurt his feeling throwing he dishs out in the backyard, it was real funny , the whole house got together to "deal" with me but basicly they were all quiet except robbie, a know musical , here in the San Marcos area, so we went at it arguing over the dishs , my bad behavior and his sloppyness,
one of the things i came away from it was , we are a culture who lack ideas, this inparticular is about dirty dishs, why the fuck cann't they clean them up, i mean why cann't this be done with out an argument, , its not personal, , but i do like to make it personal , and lets face it , one of my montras, is , " well hating me maybe the only thing that this person has ever done in there entire fucking pathic life sucessfully , maybe they might do something as a result, . " and believe me this house one needs to be agressive to get shit done around here.,

Well, I am off to Brenham again,i will be gone for a couple of days, the weather is outstanding right now; cleaned up the yard a bit, and are prepareing for the last walk down on the Eyes of Tex show comming up very quickly, all these Halloween inspire work sorta takes my mind off the oil paintings i am trying to compelete, i think as strange as ebay is it does serve one thing that most contempory painter never feel , which is making something and it being gone, not horded away in backstock,. i know to many artist who may have sold a tenth of there total production, and they have made alot of good stuff too,. but of cource in the ebay world your practicly giving it away, but in reality your being payed to practise, and its fun to make a mighty fine fun piece in a couple of hours while drinking. and amazingly it sells, i guess its the most isolated one could get, hell i could operate out in the middle of no where using my computer and mail outs, ahhh
but i do like to put on shows, its fun to orcastraight a set of work to go into a certian space, like a collection

Eyes of Texas show sept 2004

That morning waking up in Alpine, real bright and chilly , man it was beuatiful out there, (i think i am going to move farther aways from the coast from here on out). We drove over to this guys house who wanted us "hang out" with him and who knows what , i thought it was a stupid idea, but Serg , i guess wanted to be entertianed by it, i didn't feel comfortable about the situwation? the way it all came about, yesterday back at the gallery he asked us what we were came along, "were looking for studio space we are artists"
"oh your artists well if you need a place to stay for a night you can hang out with me"
i think the guy was just being polite, he seemed like a bubbly type.
"when do you want us to show up ,.when. " Serg said.
"ahhh , ah ok how about tomorrow, that would be great we can cook out." he responed
"what time..."
so we got a place , its neet to look threw strange lands threw the locals. tourist routines are boring, so i am up to it.
When we arrived over there, about mid noon, we talked and then decied to hike up this incredable hill that was right next to his little cabin, he went to go get grocerys,. after the hike about late afternoon, he was already to have a cook out, and guess what some of his buddies were there, they were all older retired guys, really it was him and this kinda fat bitchly looking fellow, we walked around the house and ate burgers , Tom the guy who invited us was so cought up in the moment, but this other guy was sorta probing us out, he was some big art collector architect, type from houston, we told him about simmon , "ohh her yea in houston we called her super shit" they alll laughed, the colloctor had this dog with him and he had this captivating way of talking to you as if he has discoverd something beuatiful about the world and wanted to share it with you, like the proud but cute way his dog trots across the field,. it wouldn't be such a big deal but, when someone is trying to tell you something of trivia and they talk real slow! and almost like some kinda bit or something, its gets wierd. The collector figured us out real fast , he ate and and in quick departing said "have fun Tom" sorta rude and was outta here, by this time tom was hitting the Scotch. and i rember sitting down in his living room with serg and we brought our portfolios, or he did , i had nothing
"see here are our slides"
he looked them over and was getting drunk , "humm that real nice, where did you go to school?" he sank back in his chair and in a serious vioce, that what we haven't heard yet.
"so what do you guys want? why are you here"
"you invited us, to look at our art, we are artists ", we said in a paniced way
more me than serg. he was already in his buisnesman stance.

"you arn't gay?"
no, we are artists"
the two of you aren't here on a honey moon"
no we are looking for studio space
"but you could be gay?"
i was real paniced this guy was figureing out we weren't gay and all, he was drunk. I was getting panicly agreeable.
the later it got them more agreeable it became,. sleeping arangements, luckly there was a bed out on the porch and another in this small room and then there was the carpted room, so i slept outside,
"Alright folks i am real tire i am going to bed bye"
So i went out to the bed and went to sleep, but i couldn't i was real nervious i knew this guy was serious about having something with one of us or both, . serg is one of these Bordertown hispanics sorta ruff machismo, if that guy start to make a move on him like touch or kiss Serge he might go wacko and beet the guy up, and he could serg boxed and this guy looked like some skinny ol guy.
As the hours drew on i could hear them getting louder and ther was music, "If serg flips we could be invloved in some crime seem"
so i decied to go in there for a glass of water,

(this is a paintg for the hide out show nov, fv2 , not finnished)

Here is a link over to jeff Baily's site,,
i happen to see jeff last week, he came over to Breham. He looks all cleaned up lost something like 40 pounds and quit drinking and goes to AA, he is like the old jeff of 94, not this gansta jeff, i could go off on alot of storys, . One of the things we are going to start doing is landscapes, i think as an mini adventure we are going to camping out around the big thinket (chain of Lakes) and set up studio somewhere and start painting for about three days, and then i think the fun part is taking the work and finding some odd place to drop it off on until we come back again,.
One of these interesting storys i read about the "highway men" of flordia, well its the title of this book about these troup of African American men who set out making palette knife landscape paintings , traveled and sold them to hotels, . the story was real interesting in regards in the time the guys did this , i think 50-60s. They were all young and were making money and living the artist life, whtch if you think about is rare in the rual south, with out any gallery rap or high society pampering you along, these guys just cut loose womanised and partyied out and painting, and I think thats the way it ended too. but their work was sold all over the place, and is collected now. is it great art, ? is that really a pertanit question today's in these post modern times?
