you know one thing, i started thinking about
and it sorta irrtated me about the whole art biznesss,
well you rember when i went and visted Dick Wray, back ohhhh in 2003, well sitting here listining to Howlin Wolf, i sorta thought about, Johnnie Swearingin, or the Rev. , i ended up scoring a video from this guy , probly the only video on Swearingin ,
well the point of this is that i asked Dick about Swearingin, he taught up in A&M back in the day maybe breifly, but he said he knew the guy , and bought his work , as a matter of fact all the "cool" art folks collected his work from Houston, back in the days of the 70-80, . I asked him does he have any of his stuff its worth $$$, " oh no, i threw it away, come on, it was fun" ,
hummm
one thing that also struck a cord with me , and maybe this is the sign of the times for artists who may their lot a unveristy gig, and patroning the museum and colleges as there rep, that no matter how many shows they racked up, no one gives a shit, but the profs and culture's signiciiansioutios, who care about making the Texas "art" seen.
but then there are the ledgends who are cherished by the folks , who jealiously collect them up without concerns of ther "value"$$$$$$
i guess it must have bothered Mr WrAY, ME AQUIRing about Swearigen, as to value,. Every piece this old black man made is owned , as Dick, well he sits on a ton of work, i mean a ton,!
(i own one of his peices, and i still owe you a whilrie gig , sorry for the delay,)
Swearingin made alot of work and sold it for a tenth of of the interest of one Wray paintings, and look who might be seeeking a wonton eye for one of Sweargins paintings,
maybe its the paradox of taking yourself seriously , in regards to prices and protecting your stock value,
but to a humble guy like Swearingin, anything goes.
and maybe just giving the shit aways for what ever, might be a better options than retaining a market value,
much like laminted fears or conclusions of Mr Rush's confessions after a couple of Tecates
no matter how may stacked resumes of cultureally realvents events, nothing compared to the fact that no one convents your work,
i guess its differnt stroks for differnt folks,.
and maybe, its the lay public who counts ,
for they may feel more passionatly for the artists vision, than the art "crowds" would ever, care to think about, for much long
and like the public ,
it was Wray who found a Swearingin.
