waiting for the nachos

IM002290.JPG

well i am working on this set of 16 pics, here is two of them, i am also trying to resolve a delima,

i found out one of my mostest majorist paintings is in jeoprady , a painting called "Fenceline"1995 its along story, but i have to find out that this painting i loaned to somebody is destroyed or saved, its been an on going crisis, this last week, i got real steamed about it,, not over JB, i know him to good to get mad at him any more, but the kinda folks around here, (in Texas) that like to destroy art?!, i guess its one of my hot topic,

I sat in mazement, imagining some one burning this painting, it remined me of some other inccodents of the fucked-up Houston culture i come from view on art and people artict lives, " just fuck it throw it away", its the sorta view which values nothing personal, like the suburbian farmer middle class mall going morrons, could run across like a diary of some one and think this is awful and pitch in the garbage, JB told me his gradffather pitched alot of his art work, i thought , man an antiquer would die to get all his stuff, for free or what ever, don't burn it ,
my God,
its just sorta made me realise the kinda culture i grew up around who don't value arty stuff and strange arty stuff should be destroyed ,
its there believe me!
the only way i could have ever gotten threw to these kinda folks is $ thats all they know anyway as in regards to whats valueable?

i rember one time i ran across this painting, when i was walking from my house to Freddys, it was a larg painting, of some spacey landscapes, i couldnt figure it out, but it was face down in the mud next to the trash can, out by the curb. i grabed it cause the strechers look good but apone realing what it was i sorta thought it was a copy or in the gerna of N,Wilson's work ( this local prof who has been painting here in San Marcos sinces the 70's, . i figured it must have been a student of his, but apone futher looking i concluded it was one of his paintings, like 5ft by 5ft, i took it over to a friend of mine and procesed to clean it up , i knew someone who colected his work and gave it to them basicly and i called up the artist to ask about the painting,
Aparently he threw the painting away years ago, he knew what it was, and why did it still exist, !?
some one stole it out of the dumpster at the college and had it hanging in there aptment until they got kicked out and there stuff curbed , i knew who owened it, but by that time i had giving the painting to this person who colected Wilson's work, so this controvery broke out about who owend the painting, Wilson always one to say you should never complete a painting, said that this painting wasn't done, and should be destroyed, i had to disagree, i thought it was done, and i had the pleasure of doing restoration on it cause it was damaged, i would kid with him asking him detials about the painting, and i would swear that there was a rooster comb somewhere trying to be expressed(i was his former student),
in the end he agreed to give the painting to the lady who has bought several of his pieces end of story but, the person who stole it from the dumpster said it was stolen by here from the landlord, i wrestled with it but concluded that if some one has landlord issues, just burdening them with your stuff almost daring them to trash it is risking alot , cause thay just might do it, so to me she surrended her right over the painting by being irrisponcible,.
case close
but what i found even more disturbing was the landlords curbing the art,
and i knew the couple to,
I happen to run across them a year form the facts of the situwation and asked them about the painting, almost like i scored big time, from them,
it went something like this,
hey did you throw away a painting, or was that one of your tentants who threw this really larg painting away a year ago....?
and in a loud boastful mannor about having it out with a bad tentant, "yea we put this person out#$@#$%, and the painting too"

"really, you threw out the painting",
" yea" responeded
i started laughing , " well i ended up puilling it out of your trash and do you know who that was, the artist"
kinda like an Antiques roadshow suspence moment,
"that painting is worth at least 3000, !"
do you know i sold the thing for a grand to this couple who colects this guys work! "

a lesson learned,
it shut them up and then i wasn't satified with the responce no crying or anything out angry over the lost, so i made fun of people who throw away art for a while , talking about how big of an idiot they are, its the only way to get threw to them, typical Houstonians, "what you threw away ,a 100 dallar item you idiot"
thats all these fucking folks know is money, whats it worth, ?

email me if any of you's got any good stories like this..

"one man's trash another man's treasure"

I am rounding up this new set, here they are in the works, i am chipping in more to them, this week, kinda places its orgins back to this show i had in 2001, at Alternate currents in Austin, called "White Trash Black Helicopeter"

IM002279.JPG

i would have to say the show is going well, 'the nacho volcano deal", we shall see its results, i am real excited to start some new work on, borders and fort like structures, one funny note i discovered on ebay was the fake lonnie toliver deal, done by this artist chas walker, i thought it was halarious, to begin with. i went to this guy's blog walker something , look it up or research the name lonni tolliver, he has been using an old black guy photo to sell this work with a fake bio etc, but after reading his blog you kinda feel for this guy's desperation, and i went to check out his main site of his work, hummm minialist prim strips, but then there is this other work, lonnie,#@$%@!$%$@%
IM002280.JPG

i don't think i can function in the folk art mind set much anymore, i love the stuff!, and basicly my whole folk art adventure started ohh, 2002 Floyd, the chicken painting deal isn't really folk to me as more as an expressistic creedo's march to death, but i think i have ran chicken george to the ground. the high light was getting into San Angle folk art and having stuff up there, for about a year, and getting booted out of there, but selling two pieces on the last day. it just bothers me and i am too neurotic its like a routine thats run its cource, but chicken will always be chicken.
IM002207.JPG

i think if i ever go back to the folkish notion its to follow a dream of reinactments, like the Civil War reenactors, traveling the roads of the south living like a hobo, when i am older, scratching out some twisted fanticy in the back of a golden chicken fast food joint, some where private and unseen,. its living on the deilusional cuffs of your imagination , to procrastinate one more day of reality, i like that kinda stuff, i live that kinda stuff
but what makes me neurotic over the whole deal is people
hell is other people

people love to run up to you and tell you your imagination is engineered, in the folk biz,

i gueess in the long run, its better to just be annunious,
like a sniper

This is a sketch for thr rat trap maze, if i ever make the thing,

View image

this sketch is inpired by my good friend Grady Roper of proper Gander, when i was making the thing, i used his line work those dashs thet crop the picture, its one of his trademarks, i first started just doing this drawing for a sculpture called the "moving forttrese in Yars Revenge" so i decied to make a scketch on it, but got gradys name twisted in to it, i think i wrote, "Grady Ropers rediscover structure as seen in the video game Yars Revenge, not yet made into the fleash"

IM002235.JPG
here is where i ended up making all the cologes, i had a good routine down, i would wake up drink coffee wathc muary and jerry, in th emorning then at night there is this great set of shows, starting with malcom in the middle sex that 70 show, and the city ,south park, cheeter, cops, i like cheeters the best, its ral interesting how the prep all the people., its also shot in Dallas,

IM002236.JPG

this is what i did all last two weeks, but i have com up with some good ideas on what to make for the next three months,, one of the main project is a booklet on the rattrap contraptions, which i am in no pressure to complete, but its fun comming up with architectual models for it, this whole month is going to be emersed still on the nacho rat trap deal, so stay tooned folks still more to come

2006, Nacho Volcano

IM002233.JPG

"Jackpot Loser" one of the paper/assemages, i am working on , (1-12)

most are like this one, strips of old comic books, horror- made into a picture, then there are some pen drawings with them

so what going to happen this week, well moblise two sculptures to the gallery and get this stuff done with, ii am feeling dizzy, from the coffee, and my apartment looks like a bunch of hamsters have shredied everything in the place,

I guess recaping whats been going on last season till now, only a couple of big paintings,
how to perfect this work, hummm,
one of the things i was telling VM about making paintings, is its like your an alchemist to a degree, thats why i like all the voodoo stuff,, your like cooking and creating receipes or spell for a meal of sorts, but its called a painting, and its all mental, or the visual tapography you mine from,
for me all this new work
the paintings which there are six new ones,
in the works,
its been this landscapes of rattraps and old temples or structures, this visual idea that could come forth like a poltergist on to a sketch, something impunded with terrror, of at least thats the way you should feel when your making it, , like lines to a scripted horror movie.,
how do you get into he mood to create such work?
a mental state of sorts,
traveling to a world of rattraps?
i don't know i guess it just happens

one idea i had and it woke me up outta bed was to make a pyrimid of viene sausages, ( the cheep dallarstor kinda) and make it like three foot high build a box around it like an areana, and set it on fire, with gasoline and video tape it ,

i have been watching those old Gamra monster movies on DVD, the atmospher of these small modeled villages and explostions and fire is real captivating, something this generation missed out on all together,,,
cheep effect in movies

i bravo cheep effects, it leads move to the imagination, not to reality
