The Return of the Trojan pitbull deal,
Well i have a show gettting ready to go up i think my last for a while, i am just not in the mood to pitch shows anymore, i start to anticipate some results of it and its a let down, all the the time, i think either i am going to pitch to big places, that motivate me, or some buttfuck nowhere where the location is better than who will ssee the shit, that was one of the things i realised after going to SA, that the kinda work i like to make, makes more scense being places in nowhere that somewhere,, like grady playing at an old folks home,. it just sounds right. Resurecting the Trojan deal, its big the biggest piece i ever made, all cardboard polyurthaine , klitz chickenbones, i am stretching the piece making it longer right now , it just seems right to do it this way, i am also make a vid on the reconstructin of the pieces and the show, to go with it, .I started an Ike vid but it don't work out.
one of the crittiqual point to all this, is now that
so stay tooned folks more to come

pitty potty

mike burns
A painting by Mike Burns, called "pitty potty" i didn't know what this meant until a friend of mine told me its an AA term,, funny piece, i put it up there with the best of my EB Ott collection,
-=-=
yea i might have to hit the road again its fun just relaxing around the house like the old times but it just aint the same, as me and drek have note, hummmm whats the difference?
the beer buzz don' last as long and the relaxing time seems more like there is somehting your avoiding but don't know what it is, i think, its time to hit the road, and go find another situwations, but this time its going to be differnt, i am now getting it in my head to head out beyond west Texas and on over to Nevada, something way out there,
anther friend of mine mike, he went out of Texas as he said to find another woman but found it to be worse, i always get refreashed by settling in on somehting, as i see it, showing or makeing art work either its going to be on my terms which yeild no results and are only about the placement of the show's collection something like art form the Dariy queen bathroom, or a big time shot at a real show, all the in between shows seem like waste of time,

waiting for Ike, the hurracane
So folk i am thinking on making a utube bit in this,
you see this is what been happening to my life here everything seems like a comedy skit, i think its a compulsion to not deal with anythings and be the distant observer syndrome, i remember when Tom Green had ball cancer, hell fuck it lets tape th surgery and talk the whole time, to deal with the anxiety of it, make a comedy bits, profit off the thing, maybe its the only way to deal with things, i know when somethings gets to serious to me, i seem to slip over to reflective joker side of myself, keeps things came but also in perspective. Something our society does now, over react.
-=
one time when i was getting on Drek about his mental problems i thought humm what were mine, overreacting?, which i think is a common cultural behavior trait around houston area, over reacting, my folks are notorious over reactors, hell i base alot of my extreme drama on channeling my folks hystria about simple things like leaving the refrigerator's door open to long or, making sure everything is locked, i think all my gripes about safety come from this, mainly over exasperated scare tactics to encourage mind control base on threatening , what ever, children seem to be a favorite, threaten them and shit gets done,
ahhhh
So Ikes hitting our coast, i think i am going to set up a lawn chair outside and drink beer and jam to AC/DC, i always wanted to do that, mount a chair and a cooler on top of my folks house and flip off ike, as it rolled in , on a 12 hour beer buzz . if i had the money i would get some heavy duty amps and generators and blast it loud, on the roofs,
funny thing is i bet, i wouldnt be in harms way , except , the cops would come around yelling, "hey you have to evacuate for your safty, please don't make us taser you off that roof," yea fuck it everything is a utube bit i think now, this is the new reality base tv life . So where is the art in all this? hummm ahhh
one thing i do, no matter what is paint i am good for about 2-3 hours a day, any more i have to have some hussling reasons, so what to do with the rest of the time,? utube is like this new vise right along there with this blog- ebay - and net addictions, i think its warpped everything , or made net life more exciting that trying to develop a "real" art career,
i think now its just about control, in the net world or utube you make stuff and show it, well in the real art world its more a waiting in line type of activity, and tons of appearances and filling out forms, you basicly pay to be social or participate, in the net world, you are your own boss, your erect what ever someobody may see it , but who cares, but at least there is an end game to it,
so turning 40 here, what are some of the verdict as to what to do,
well, i work off of whats funny , go where the comedy goes, where opportunity leads, which means settings that fit my art works
thats it basily, the rest is up to your imagination, as for art "career" ahhh fuck it, i take it too personally now, trying to land a show, my ego is to powerful to find a place i like and want to be involved in, to be told what ever, its a game , but, it aint funny, and as i have always felt sorta artificial,
So i say Fuck it, lets see where the brush leads, and by the time this show is over at Texas State ill be free, to do what ever, and ......

Teddy & Marge

| | Comments (7)

Teddy and Marge, is Grady new gig, i ended up video taping them play at a old folks home, Grady told me they just got back from a tour of old folks homes, I always bug him about wierd innicidents on the road, at these kind of places, he said, naa not much, but margie got a comment like , people liked her voice alot, but wondered why she would tour at places like this?, , some of the old folks there, the elderly wonder why some one at her talent is here?! i thought, hummm
well its one thing about grady its more of a place or setting that catapults things , something , we both get along in , that our art or music is somthing we could imagine taking place in or that place other there, well its all imagination isnt it?., The Teddy& Marge dual is most defainatly something like the intro song of "All in the family" , tv show, old records of couples singing, old turn of the centry songs , show tunners outsiders, or some sorta "throw back" but, i would say much like Scott Biram, its all throw back now!, and its cleaverness is who is doing it who and why?,Hell, my whole fucking career is a throw back, like fanships to lost dramas and appearances of old stuff, antique stores,.
ahhh
Well the comment about Margie clued me off on this about touring in old folks homes, and i thought it was great to market to these kind of places,. really this is where the music belongs, or does it?
much like my ventures in selling chickens to simple counrty folks, showing them an imagined impressions of the gritty farm chicken's life. its, a life of imaginationed farm scene livestock tall tales, , Teddy 's ventures in singing to old folks is honest but also not really about old folks more about fucking with them,. i remember listing to them play and they would ever so often go into Attic Ted psychodelic reverberation thing, , now can you imagined a bunch of 75 year old retired, rancher conservative folks, sitting there dumb founded and a bit creeped out and put off but this but then to tired to leave, , after the show i asked grady, WTF gardy are you like the grim ripper here play the organs to usher in their twilighted al'timer'istic sing songs bedazzled effect before they die.,here, they didn't know what the hell was going on.,
ahhhhh
the stylistic placement of what they are making and where to play it makes complete scenes and there are plenty of gigs!, that pay and offer free cookies!, which is what i would say is the the meaning of all this to begin with,.

One of my favorite stories, about punk musician converting over to retro county was why? , would punk go counrty, the music is boring compared to punk, its the people who listen to it are boring, its cheesy and it wreaks of good ol conservative America, but why would there be a conversion? the reason is simple, punk have to out punk them self and be more punkish than punk rockers, plus music is music, if your a true musician, , one of my old friends said, that in country music " it aint about being cool or hating the establishment,. all, these exclusive hipster clicks of the Punk music crowd, you end up hating more than the establishment, and plus more crazy shit happens in country shows than punk shows, plus honky tonks are everywhere,, tons. A country honky tonks will have some one play as long as you play counrty,., you got the best drunken white trash groupies there, real bar fights,, and real old folk dramas that has been fermenting years in the at bar not some staged teen tuff guy with a chip on his shoulder who when off his riddline and hates his folks cause they won't get hims an x-box 360,,
ahhhh
So it made scenes real life is far more interesting than the life, that the music and art would want to excluded from the creative processes, and where is real life, far away form people who sole goal it is to establish art/music counrty or hierarchy. I would say playing in old folk homes is abut the setting and the crowd listening to it. This creates a odd sensation when playing, i could imagine as an musician. Cause, the music i would imagine they would want to hear,,. kinda like ma painting headless chickens and handing them to aunt Rue, telling her about the great dinner we used to have, remember that aunt rue!, Remember!
she would remarks,
"Son i ain't killed a chicken since i was a kid, i hated that! whats your problem?"

So folks what s been going on here ins San Marcos?
well for starters i am turning 40 this month,
and i am trying to figure out what direction to take.,.,.,.
I was watching this documentay on Nashville called Trashville
really interesting i feel an akin spirt to all this,
its got me split on how to behave and what will yeild results
its all very controling basicly,
one of the things the doc pointed out about the younger generation to claim all
of nashville music scene is nothing more that a large strbuckmcdonalld maul now
that real tallent is sweep away by infomercial musician hire by marketing firms.
yeap could such a thing exist in art?
i try not to get into the buisuness of selectively demonizing art places, but the spilt i felt about all this why should one appease or become part of a scene, just to prove your worthy ,,. something the documentary pointed out with Hank 3, and the idea all country musician go to Nashville to make it but get churned up and spit out. I
sorta blame the public in all this, its the public dopeAmean mentalitly forged by the Mauls depended on the corupreations that create the options for folk on what they will like and buy, maybe, its run its course as the documentry showed and what left after there is no more money to be made and everybody pulls out is the country musician still playing on the street some where., and the public which is scene as a cash cow , is drained, by all this new tech, making it may be a thing of the past for aspiring musicians, but maintaining a lifestyle playing and getting paid cutting a new cd from time to time, and banging your groupies from a night of drunking rebel rousing honkytonking may be the best it gets, why not,
could Art be headed in the same way, i always felt i was more a country artist than a folk person to a degree, and like the documentary pointed out country music made by country people, not a skilled Califoriian redneck fan on the side kick for a year.
So back to Art, i think its going to be just live the life, do what sounds interesting basically the data will lead the way not the stack of competition form you have to fill out.
ahh so it goes
i have to head back to brenham to to erect the might Trojan piece, due up in a couple of weeks

slackers studio serious, maybe

| | Comments (0)

Ahhh
so whats going on here, i am enduring the heat, man its humid,
Studio wise, you can check it out on the utube bits, i think i do it more justice than trying to write about it. one note about drama and such
Ohhh about in 2006, i made this exhibit of work about me and drek and richie, sotra like metaphores if you could call it that, but somebody saw it and told me this isn't serious work, because its about my friends, it begged the definition as to what they thought serious work was, i was familar with what they made, and it was like blank minimal mood deocr kinda work, i thought is this serious art work , validaed by larg corrapte art buyers who lay down sorta big time money on decore for there office and if you back it up with the hi end spirtualism of minilmalism, you have a corrupt, vise, where one comfortably belives there work is serious and saleable, but pettry dramas about your drunken friend, can that be seiours, i guess what took me by surprise was the maginiture of their art, or there comfortableness to know who they assosiated with which made them feel serious,. i thougth huummm a blank canvas, vs a dramic expressionits one, whats the techical differnces?
i think serious means work that is about adult liberal themaes and non serious is about kids hip hop stuff, maybe, its like the seriousness of tea room chats, old ladys hang in and have serious discussions about the status of the world.
ahhhh fuck it ,
Talking to ol red about all this is exciteing cause the same grips could be leveled at the folk art world, if one exists, i think its mainly the focus on whats shown at gallerys, in the folk world its what gallerys put forth as serious,. as an artist you start to notice things, it can drive you mad evenutaly,. God i know, like i said in from the get go, i wish there was a site like" rate your -----" but with local art scene where practical questions were asked about the look of the work is ?,mix with what company and gallery? its gets stranger in the folk world cause you mix lifestyle in there, and authinic tests, . one thing i have always realised and studied about the Slacker idealolgy, if there is one, is really its skilled reactions of validations against anything being authintic, with out, being a self/paraody or a deliverat act of superfisialcity,. something i told Red about was in Austin there is so much additude about art that is differnt than other places because you have this pensive music scene everybody is involved with, everybody is thriving for some exposeure and just to want to play, the ambitions of "making it" in the music scene are still there but realisticly i think most are just happy to play locally and develope a small following, The slacker ideas at least from what i could gather in the art zone are like club whos drive is to be introvered but public made an additude who defence to peer presure , which admires ambitious show, " arn't gonna make it?", how do you deal with being just content with just getting by, having fun etc. Where does this art computition come from, ? We ranking shows, and shows are about society,
something slackers want to check out of.
